New Silkie Chicks!
Well that clutch of show quality silkies is hatching! So far we have 13 chicks hatched and at least 2 more on their way. They are darn cute!
Isn't that first one impressive? He already has a great crest! Some of these have vaulted skulls, which I didn't realize until after I bought the eggs. Vaulted skulls essentially means their brains stick out of their skulls more than usual. Weird huh? Silkies have holes in to top of their skulls and are susceptible to injuries of the brain. Throw in the large crests so they cannot see where they are going and you have a walking time bomb. ha ha. You just have to be a little more careful with them.

How cute! Very impressive first chick, I just hope its eyes widen a little as it matures. Is it supposed to be a Gray or a Partridge Silkie?
